Our exclusive partnership with Nutrislice brings the latest technology to help make menus, nutrition and allergy information easy to access for your students and families in all of our schools. We've taken the student experience to the next level by creating a customized solution via the mobile app, dynamic websites, digital signage integrated to our proprietary menu planning software – Webtrition. Combined with a custom portfolio of more than 1,000 original photos of what's actually on the menu, recipe descriptions and latest news, our partners have given this solution rave reviews!

In order to make good decisions about the foods they eat, we believe that students need two things: healthy options and the insight to choose wisely. We go beyond the cafeteria with our nutrition education programs, setting the stage for smart dining decisions that will pave the way for a lifetime of success and well being.

Simply Good

Simply Good is an annualfood and nutrition educationprogram that expands students’ knowledge of food to include nutrition facts, sustainability information and even food preparation tips.

This program aims to move the conversation about food from the cafeteria to the classroom, hallways, homes and the community. Student awareness of food is often very limited to their own personal experiences. Through special events, activities and special food focuses, we educate students about the importance of eating healthy meals, while also introducing a variety of new ingredients that broaden their food horizons.Monthly activities highlight seasonal and nutrient-rich foods such as red and orange vegetables in the Fall and leafy green and cruciferous vegetables in the Spring to engage students around healthful eating and living.

Sustainability

Chartwells is committed to the environment and sustainability initiatives that enrich our student’s lives, and our communities. We:

  • Champion local farmers and fair trade.
  • Reduce the use of antibiotics in chicken.
  • Promote farm animal welfare through the use of cage-free shell eggs as a customized solution for interested districts.
  • Use dairies for milk and yogurt that do not treat cows with growth hormone.
  • Choose vendors that have established standards regarding the humane treatment of animals.
  • Commit to healthier oceans with sustainable seafood purchasing policies.
  • Promote locally grown produce and support local farms for Chartwells partner school districts

USDA regulations and South Whidbey school district policy allow the following alternative to milk to be served:

  1. Pacific Natural Ultra Soy Milk, Vanilla, a USDA-approved soy milk, for children who are allergic to cow’s milk or when cultural, religious, or ethical reasons eliminate cow’s milk consumption.

Please NOTE: The USDA does not allow water or juice as milk substitutions. We are therefore unable to serve them in place of milk, even if a physician’s order is provided.

To make arrangements for your child to be served one of our available milk substitutions, please send a written request to your child’s school nurse. The written request should include:

  1. Your child’s name, grade, and teacher;
  2. Which product you would like your child to receive (soy milk); and
  3. A parent or guardian’s signature
